Rock and roll Hound Dog Hound Dog

ToonFilter: I remember, when I was very young, watching a cartoon about two bears living in a forest (note: they were not Yogi & Boo-Boo), who scrounged meals off people passing by. The older bear would, when an older couple drove through, make himself look pathetic and starving. When a jalopy full of teenagers drove through, he said "I'll do my Elvis act," whereupon he combed his head fur into a pompadour grabbed a guitar and sang "Hound Dog Hound Dog Rock and Roll Rock and Roll Hound Dog" and was rewarded with a bunch of eats. Has anyone else seen these and if so, what is the title of the short?

Response by poster: No, burhanistan. Just looking at the drawings, I can say it's not that. This was fairly contemporary to Elvis & rock and roll just judging by the light-hearted tone of the parody.

Could it be Humphrey the Bear? See also wikipedia's List of Fictional Bears (has section on animated bears).

Are you sure they weren't dogs? This sounds very familiar to me but I'm certain they were dogs, not bears.

Best answer: I have seen this. I'm nearly 100% certain that it was a Woody Woodpecker cartoon. The bear was a Yellowstone bear and had an act for every demographic that would net him the most spoils. When Woody came driving up, he pretended to be a trick bear and Woody kept having him repeat "sit up" and "dead bear", causing to repeatedly bash his head on a rock.

And those bears are Windy and Breezy but I think this cartoon was before they were officially named.

Now that it's solved I hope you don't mind a little chat. Jon, I'd forgotten it, but that cartoon was absolutely formative for me! (I loved Woody, and at ages 3 and 4, wore a woody mask for Halloween, over my regular Woody pajamas.)

I remember thinking that Old Faithful should be called Old Facefull in this cartoon, which caused me to anticipate my future life distinguish by great wit of similar caliber, but alas I'd shot my wad.

I was curious about the son bear having the voice of Elroy Jetson. Turns out the same voice actor, Daws Butler, did a ton of voices for Tex Avery and Hannah-Barbera, including Yogi Bear and even Cap'n Crunch.
