Hair Extensions yay or nay?

Seeking your experiences with hair extensions in general, Great Lengths Hair Extensions more specifically.

Now that I've changed my makeup up thanks to your advice (and looking much improved), I'm considering hair extensions for my fine, shoulder-length hair. This would be for a fun change for the New Year, and a present to myself.

I've consulted a stylist at a high end salon who specializes in extensions, and it seems like Great Lengths Hair Extensions would be the way to go. But does anyone here have any personal experience with hair extensions? What can I expect? Will it be painful to sleep on? How would I detangle it without pulling bonds? Will it weigh down and break my fine hair? Is this a horrible idea? Also, what's the upkeep like? How do you know when it's time to have new extensions put in -- does the hair start to fall out?

Any and all comments from personal experiences and those of close friends is welcome, as well as any personal knowledge.

I researched hair extensions a few years ago for myself and ended up going with a high quality set of clip in extensions. They were around 90 bucks and I loved them! I brought them to my regular hairdresser the first time I wanted to put them in so she could teach me. They were very comfortable and long lasting, if you back comb your roots befor you clip them in they will last all day. I even slept in them occasionally! You might want to consider this option if you haven't already-- less expensive, less damaging, and won't need to be removed after a few months. Good luck!!

I've never had extensions but I have seen a couple of videos by YouTube "beauty gurus" (young women who are into hair/makeup, not professional stylists) who have had them. If I remember correctly, this one is at least partially about how to brush your hair with extensions; also, the popular vlogger juicystar07 had extensions and may have done a video about them. If you search YouTube, you'll find many more.
