AskLAFilter: What's a better place to learn computer programming from: Pierce College or Los Angeles City College?

I'm debating between taking computer programming classes at either Pierce College or LA City College. Has anyone had any experience with their computer programming classes, or any thoughts in general about the quality of education at either of these schools?

I don't really know either school - but so often in education, what you as the student put in, is what you get out.

In general, the best place to learn programming is in front of your computer, with easy access to materials and people to help. Happily, it is easier than ever to meet these conditions without even getting near a college if you don't want to.

Pick the one with the people that seem more interesting; that you want to learn more from.

Can't speak about LACC, but Pierce has had a long history of computer programming. My father went there in the early 80's. From what he tells me, companies like DEC would hire practically every who finished their 2 year programs because they knew Pierce had a good program. My dad got his first programming job from a guy who went to a professor there and asked him for the names of the better students.

Obviously that was a while ago, but what I hear that tradition is still going strong. Plus, they just spent a bunch of money on remodeling the school. It looks nice on my way into work.

Plus, this guy went there. So you'd be in some "leet" company ;-)
