Better Android Calendar App/Widget?

Android app/widget help: I really enjoyed the WebOS calendar, especially the way it blocked out hours of the day.

Here you see how it blocks out hours on the day view, and here on the weekly view.
I love this! But I recently switched to an HTC EVO and every Android calendar I've seen lists the day's and week's events in even blocks. A half-hour event takes up as much room as a three-hour event. Looks kind of like this.

Also, is there a way to sync facebook events without syncing all the birthdays? I was swamped in facebook birthdays so I had to turn facebook event syncing off.

Thanks for any help!

Have a look at Calendar Pad - in particular the way you can have certain hours of the day compressed and others expanded (see the "Hour Splitter" setting, and try "Default" (which compresses early AM hours A LOT, and evening hours SOMEWHAT), or try "Emphasize Daytime", which ensures day hours are the maximum size possible, while still showing all 24 on the screen.
Not exactly what you (or I) want, but the best I have come across so far.

On my calendar app, what you show as the evenly spaced events is in the LIST view. If I select the DAY view or the WEEK view, it shows the blocking of the hours.

In addition to that, I've also downloaded DejaOffice which has a lot of the features that the old PalmOS apps had for the calendar, contacts, notes and Todo list. DejaOffice also lets you choose the view, with LIST looking like your sample, but DAY and WEEK blocking off the hours.

Have you tried Smooth Calendar? It doesn't compress the unused blocks, but it does show meetings, etc in proportionate blocks. The week view, in particular, looks almost identical to your example shot of the WebOS widget, and the day view isn't far off. It's free, so even if you hate it, all you're losing is a few minutes.

Best answer: CathyG's comment suggests that this is probably something that's customizable, so I went poking around in my calendar and found the setting you want:

In the stock calendar app, click Menu --> Settings --> Calendar View Settings. Change "Day Views" to "Time View" (instead of "Event View")
