Joomla Blog plugin, or something else?

Good Joomla Blogging plugin, or use a Website like Blogspot etc?

I have a website for my business, and I'd like to start blogging. I'm wondering which is better for me. A Joomla plug in so that I can blog on my site, or blogging through a third party site such as blogspot that links from my "blog" tab on my site. I'd like to allow people to share my blog posts on facebook and twitter, to comment, and to email them. My hope is that blog posts will catch and that that will drive interest in my business. So, are there any drawbacks to using another site? Do you know any good Joomla blog plugins that will satisfy my needs? Thanks.

I run quite a few blogs for clients on the Joomla! platform.

Though there are a lot of solutions I haven't tried, we've had good success even with vanilla Joomla! + social media extensions (like a Facebook sharing extension).

I have to say that the ROI on blogging is nothing near what most of my clients expect, so you may find it's a bit of a letdown if you're hoping that "articles I think are interesting" will grab a big audience within a short timespan.

As far as an external blog, you might like that if you plan on supporting features like comments and don't want to update your plugins very often (more than once a year really). I've had a client's old, thirdy-party commenting system completely take down their Joomla! blog because the software updates were inadvertently neglected.

By the way, one thing that can work really well is:

+ Use an external blogging service for actual blog
+ Use an RSS aggregator plugin for Joomla! to display the third-party site blog posts on your Joomla! site.

You can also push posts to your Facebook feed, etc...check out these plugins.

Joomla standard functionality (with the "email this story" icon turned on in article paramenters) + Jcomments + whatever social media promotion plugin you prefer
