Mystery part

What is this thing? See picture.
It looks like an alarm of some type to me. It's almost reminiscent of a school bell, but might be a little small.

It looks like it has a nipple for a hose...maybe something from a motor?

what's that input looking thing? pneumatic? or mechanical (like where a cable would come out but it's been cut off or a lever/rod) or something else?

You know, it kind of looks like a pacemaker. (It's not a pacemaker.)
Any way you could pop the hood and let us see what's inside?

Response by poster: One of my first thoughts was pacemaker, for some reason. The output part is sealed in rubber, except for that little part that looks like a connection for a hose.
The spot in the middle looks like something that would deal with light, and that little screeny circle looks like air might go in or out.

Did you find it on the ground ... outside a hospital?

Looks like some kind of air filter to me, but for something that needs very little air.

It looks expensive, put it on craigslist as "air filter- Other"and see if it sells...ask the buyer what it is.

(Sorry, but I definitely need two bites of this apple..)
If it's got both a part that looks like a light sensor, and a part that looks like a microphone (the screen), could it be a sound and motion sensor out of a fairly complicated (but ruggedly designed) security alarm system?

It looks to me a like some kind of a pump with a thermometer on it. I guess some kind of coolant pump?

It reminds me of the guts of a hidden (or not-so-hidden) camera system. They can fit stuff like that inside of wristwatches and pens now. If you were to crack it open, I wouldn't be surprised to find hard drive guts (although I am secretly hoping it's a pacemaker, because that would be WILD).

Best answer: Medical pump. Looks like its similair to a Baclofen Pump (brand name I think) that is implanted into patients with cerebal palsy and MS I believe. Yes implanted. Google image search possibly NSFW

Response by poster: And WickedPissah lives up to his or her handle. That is it exactly.
And now I wonder, what the heck is this thing doing floating around out there? And now I ask myself, "Why do you have this thing sitting in your living room?" Creepy.
Well, thanks for playing everyone; I enjoyed the varied guesses. Good eye WickedPissah.
