They're the springy adhesive bandages running back Herschel Walker wore on his nose to improve his breathing and open his airways when he had a cold. He was the first to wear them in a professional athletic venue. Jerry Rice made Breathe Right strips famous. link link posted by carsonb at 11:08 PM on October 7, 2010 [1 favorite]
I don't know about allergies, but sometimes the adhesive that holds on Breathe Right strips (and the various generic drug-store knock offs of them) gives me pimples in the creases on the sides of my nose if I don't scrub it all off properly the next morning (I use them for clearer breathing while sleeping rather than athletics). The adhesive can be a bit tenacious. posted by aught at 6:29 AM on October 8, 2010
