What blogs are geared to beginning drawing/dry media artists? Specifically, I enjoy artists dissecting their sketches for gesture, construction, perspective, lighting, etc. There are a million boring tutorial sites, but who is giving out nuggets of drawing wisdom in a more abbreviated, blog format?

I've found Rad how to and the Art Center and those are really fantastic. But I want more!

Best answer: As a non-artist who can still appreciate a good instructional breakdown, I wholeheartedly recommend John K's blog and cartoon school.

Good question!

Gurney Journey is my favorite so far.

Err, sorry I didn't see you said dry media specifically and James Gurney does mostly painting. Still a great question.

Best answer: This isn't limited to dry media, but the artist behind Dresden Codak, Aaron Diaz, has a blog where, among other things, he posts some really interesting reflections on various drawing techniques and skills. I actually find his blog a lot more interesting than his actual comic work -- he's very articulate and his posts are full of examples that well illustrate his point. For instance, this post about expressions with hands is very well thought out.

Response by poster: Wow, runaway ballista, Aaron Diaz's work is amazing (to me, anyway). And his art blog is precisely what I'm looking for. Thanks!
