Where is the proverbial website door for becoming an informed local voter?

Please help me be an informed voter for local elections in November (spec: Brooklyn).
I firmly believe that being active in local elections is important -- locally and eventually nationally. I need to stop eating my inner thought-words and make informed choices for the upcoming election. Unfortunately, I don't know who's running or for what or what their main planks are. My Google-fu has left me feeling overwhelmed and unable to pare down to my local district. There's gotta be a place where I can get an unbiased overview for a specific district on upwards, right? I already missed the primaries, but I need a brief table to get me started.

Oh, and if you don't know your local district you can call 311.

You can start by reading The Brooklyn Paper about once a week. They also have a blog roll on the right side that will fill in more blanks.

[on my iPod Touch; sorry for the lack of links]
I'd check out the Brian Lehrer show on WNYC, it's local and talks politics a LOT. There should be podcasts of previous episodes. He's also started a new political site who's name escapes me at the moment.

Response by poster: I love 30 issues in 30 days from Brian Lehrer (when I get to listen) and know my district.... I was just being lazy and wanted a nice, neat place to start my research from. Alas, alack, I gotta do it meself.
