Lazy Sunday Afternoon Jazz: I would like to live in the mood provided by this cover song, please recommend similars (preferably stuff from the past 20 years, vocals optional, absolutely no Diana Krall pls, thx).

Astrud Gilberto. It's older than your 20 year deadline, but I think you will enjoy.

Jane Monheit has a range from jazz standards to MGM/RKO musicals of the 1930s-1950s and Brazilian rhythms.

Do you use a service like Pandora or Last.fm? Have you tried starting with this artist/song and seeing what they suggest?

It reminds me a lot of Astrud Gilberto and a few slower/jazzier Seu Jorge songs, though. You also might want to check out Nouvelle Vague, though they're more chanson than jazz.

Madeleine Peyroux, whose name I may have misspelled.

Eighties tunes redone in a bossa nova style by a sultry female vocalist? Nouvelle Vague is exactly what you want.

Diana Panton, Lisa Ekdahl (specifically her Lisa Ekdahl Sings Salvadore Poe album, though she does have a kind of polarizing voice), some of Emilie Claire Barlow's stuff, and maybe some Blossom Dearie for a bit of a throwback.

And thanks for introducing me to Kat Edmonson! :)
