I just want to see a TV picture in non-saturated color. Help end this comedy of errors!

Reached the end of my tech savvy-osity. Cannot for the life of me figure out how to select any of the options on my new-to-me's TV. I can SEE the menu, but can't access any options. All I want to do is adjust the picture!

My trusty old TV gave out and started losing its colors. For the past several months, I've been looking at a TV that only showed blue, yellow and reddish-brown. That palette messes with your mind after a while, believe me! But there's no budget for a new TV, so I got a TV from someone on Craig's List who is moving into a furnished apartment. It's a JCV av-24f702. He did not have the remote.

I got everything hooked up and running, and the Comcast remote working with it, and I could bring up the TV's menu (and the cable menu), but could not select any option. Got a universal remote, tried every JVC code listed, some of them do not work, some will bring up the cable menu and the TV's mute, some will bring up the TV's menu, but none will allow me to SELECT anything on the TV's menu. There is no option to program from the physical TV. The front panel has volume and channel buttons (http://www.flickr.com/photos/amalkoff/4924567352/) and the back has inputs only. So I can bring up the TV's menu and it looks like this (http://www.flickr.com/photos/amalkoff/4924566914/). I cannot find the magic button or combo of buttons that will allow me select any menu item. I've tried all combinations of buttons on the TV itself, I've tried "menu", "guide", "ok/select" and various other combos of buttons on the Comcast remote (http://www.flickr.com/photos/amalkoff/4924566630/), and I've tried "ok", "input", "guide" and holding down the "tv" button along with various others on the universal remote (http://www.flickr.com/photos/amalkoff/4923972665/). Every combination so far has just made the TV's menu disappear. Poof.

Is there some simple magic button or combo I'm missing, or do I have to special order the actual remote for this TV ($50), and might that not work as well? I've Googled, I've researched, I've called JVC and Comcast...I'm at a loss. After months of seeing 3 colors, I'd like to adjust the (super-saturated) colors on this TV. Is that too much to ask? Thanks in advance!

When you get the menu onscreen, have you tried hitting the channel or volume buttons on the TV itself to see if they do anything (besides change the channel or volume)?
