I was in this restaurant/bar a few weeks ago, but I don't remember the name. It's in New York near Rivington and Suffolk. Any ideas?

Oh wow, I was just there like two weeks ago. It's Cafe something. Josephine? Shoot. I'll try to think of it and come back.

Best answer: Juanita. Cafe Juanita. I knew I remembered a J.

The Magician, I dunno just walk around A9 and see if you find it. If it was Mexican, it could be Cafe Juanita.

Are you sure that was Cafe Juanita?

Response by poster: I thought it was the Magician too, just from the descriptions,
For people who are interested in quieter places, try the Magician, 118 Rivington Street. Here one can enjoy freshly made margaritas by its candle-lit marble tables for $6...
But the pictures didn't look right. Cafe Juanita doesn't have carpet and wooden doors like the meetup pictures. I found one here of Cafe Juanita, you can see that the lights and the pictures on the wall match. Thanks boomchicka!!! Metafilter rules.

preview: another good link from riffola... see the pictures on the wall?

Riffy, yeah, I recognized the wall of pictures and the cork wreath immediately; they just look darker in the original photo. Plus if you look at the front shot of The Magician, you can see that it doesn't have the funky multi-paned front window like in the first Cafe Juanita picture.

Glad to help, airguitar. Hey, if you go back, try the cupcakes at Sugar Sweet Sunshine across the street. Their frosting is heavenly.

The funny thing about all this is, I don't even live in NYC. I was just visiting and needed a little dinner before seeing a friend's band around the corner. Life is full of coincidence, isn't it?

Response by poster: Completely. I was the same. Just walking around, from out of town, looking for a little place to haunt. Someplace quiet. I think it was the happy hour that sold me. Three dollar margaritas till seven. It was a good find.

Something else about that place which was cool, if anyone goes, was the radio. They've got a satellite radio console behind the bar. Some pretty good stuff. I'd never heard any of the space radio before.... Yeah. All around a fabulous experience. And now I can tag that Flickr picture with the right name! What a nice story.

(It's interesting to see the counter on that picture, as metafilter doesn't show view stats for it's threads. For what it's worth, I think the right answer came in around 50 views. Do you remember boomchicka?)
