Quilted Smoking Jacket!
August 5, 2010 7:56 PM

A friend has offered me a prize to find this jacket for sale. A similar jacket also made an appearance in Dinner for Schmucks, worn by Bruce Greenwood. The key search terms seem to be "quilted smoking jacket", but my googling has not turned anything up. I hate to use AskMeFi for this, but there is CASH at stake!

My first thought was Louis, but depends if that arm band is part of the jacket.

A smoking jacket is usually more like a short bathrobe, this is cut like a dinner/tuxedo jacket. Dolce and Gabbana did a take on it last year.

Here's the closest I can find.

If you really want to go nuts, you could check IMDB to find out who the Dinner for Schmucks' costume designer is, then contact the costumer's union to try to ask where it came from.

I don't know if the armband is part of will.i.am's jacket, but we're hoping to find one without an armband. Not sure if that implicates Louis or not.

Dolce and Gabbana seems like a good hint.

Any other suggestions?

Yeah, it's Dolce and Gabbana.

I first assumed Vuitton but now I *think* it's D&G too because look at this white one. Single button. Slim velvet lapel.

It's from the Dolce & Gabbana Fall/Winter 2009 collection. Ebay has them in white and black. Please send cash.

Whoa, people are fast around here! There's a smaller size available, too.

Why does the quilting on the eBay D&G look significantly larger than on the jacket in the original question?

Burberry makes something somewhat similar and a bit cheaper.

You are all incredibly awesome (my friend agrees -- he's amazed!)

halogen - if I ever see money from this (possible but not likely), I will gratefully gift you a sock puppet!

I wondered about that myself. If you look at these two pages (one, two), which have pictures from the D&G show where the jacket was introduced, you'll see that there are two designs, one with a smaller quilt pattern and one with larger.

The ebay honestly looks like a fake...

Just FYI, the D&G one isn't the same as the Burberry one in genre/use - the Burberry one looks like an "outdoors" one à la Barbour, whereas the D&G one seems to be more like a DJ than anything else, so more dressy and indoorsy.

Which is to say, if your friend gets the Burberry one because it's cheaper, they'll be sorely disappointed as they're different beasts.
