Cubs tix
July 30, 2010 2:42 PM

I want to buy three tickets for a Chicago Cubs game at Wrigley Field on Aug. 21st, 22nd, or 23rd. I've looked on the ballpark website and on StubHub, but all I can find are crummy seats at high prices. Is there any hope for me, at this late date? Who else, besides StubHub and the team, sells baseball tix online?

eBay and Craigslist. If you are willing to gamble, you might be able to pick up cheap seats the day of the game on Stubhub as sellers dump them for whatever they can get at the last minute.

You can also buy "standing room only" tickets at the box office the day of the game. Technically, you are supposed to remain standing at the back of the grandstand for the entire game. In practice, though, you can just stand for a few innings (to allow for late arrivals) and then take whatever empty seats appeal to you. The ushers are concentrated at the main aisle and forward, so I wouldn't advise going for field box or box seats. But anywhere back of the main aisle (i.e., section numbers starting with a 2) would pretty much be fair game. If the legitimate ticket-holder shows up, just move to other seats.

If you're really willing to gamble, there are always tickets to be had around the Addison stop.

Are you sure the Cubs are in town on the 23rd? My schedule says they're in DC that day.

And the other games are against Atlanta, which would be sort of a medium-draw day. But with the way the Cubs are playing this year, you'll have NO trouble getting tickets.

There are brokers around Wrigley, some are online, too, but you'll probably get a better deal the day of.

Have fun!
