Trying to locate a first-person essay I once read, back in the '90s mebbe. Situation: white English dude makes friends with/seeks to interview a ditzy, goofy, elliptical Arab dude.

White dude ends up chauffeuring Arab dude around suburban London on errands that are never explained. ISTR it being in The New Yorker or Granta, but could certainly be wrong about that... Ring any bells?

Best answer: This sounds to me like a piece Jon Ronson read on This American Life, which was collected in a book called Them: Adventures With Extemists.
