Things to do in Aurora, Colorado?

A friend and her 19-year-old daughter are going to be in Aurora, Colo. for a medical procedure next Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. What fun and distracting cultural activities can they do while there? They probably will not have a car.

Best answer: Aurora is near the airport, so they could take the AF 'Skyride' bus from the airport to downtown Denver. There's a lot to do there. What sort of activities are they interested in?

I should have said that Aurora is a big suburb and not particularly known (at least to me) for its cultural activities.

Best answer: Yeah, they pretty much need to get on a bus to Denver for fun "and distracting". You don't say where they're staying or where the procedure is, but here is the Aurora-area bus coverage for an idea; pretty much all of those east-west buses -- 3, 6, 10, 15 -- end up somewhere in Denver; Google transit maps can find decent routes -- here's how they could get from the Aurora Medical Center, North Campus to the Denver Art Museum in 44 minutes on the #6 bus.

Then just search Ask Metafilter for one of the several Denver-advice threads there've been over the years.

I'll try to provoke any potential rabid Aurora-lovers into recommendations for you by saying this: I think the best they're going to get in Aurora Proper is some sort of mall. Even the Aurora Chamber of Commerce runs out of ideas after 8 things and starts recommending places that are hours away from Aurora.

Best answer: Agreed. Aurora is east of Denver proper and culturally devoid.

If they hop of the Colfax bus that will take them right into the heart of downtown. Eventually. It's kind of a haul. Once there they will find tons of stuff to do assuming they will be ambulatory. Denver Art Museum, Colorado History Museum, Performing Arts Center... you name it. It's be helpful to know what kinds of things they like.
