Is it safe to share a phone's MEID with someone else?

I'm selling a cell phone on eBay. Someone just emailed me asking for the MEID so they can check it against the service provider. Is it safe for me to divulge this information, and would it be ok to post it in the actual listing?

I wouldn't post it in the listing, but I wouldn't hesitate providing the MEID/ESN to a buyer. Most buyers will want to check if the phone if the phone is flagged as lost or stolen.
