I'm not sure it's exactly what you're looking for, but it's probably in the same ballpark: L0pht Heavy Industries. I'm surprised these guys (and girls, I think) still have a web presence. I haven't paid them any mind since the mid 1990s.

Continuing my trip down memory lane, I'd also like to direct your attention to the Cult of the Dead Cow.

There's a little bit of overlap between their members, I think, but the two groups have distinctly different public personas. Thanks for making me remember them, it'll be fun to see what they've been up to.
