women's haircuts in arlington/lexington MA

My wife would like suggestions for nice places to get her hair cut in Arlington or Lexington, Massachusetts. I would like for the suggested places to be reasonably-priced-- $50 or less before tip. She's just looking for a cut. Her regular stylist (who's a few towns away) is on maternity leave for another few weeks so she wants to go someplace close to home for a change. Thanks in advance.

I'd strongly suggest Shag in Southie. It's about 20 minutes from the area and she should go to yelp and read their reviews.

I've been struggling with bad soccer-mom haircuts for years and after visiting Shag for the first time I got dozens of compliments on how great my hair looks.

Seriously, all the salons in the burbs specialize in the suburban mom 'do.

Go to Shag. They have a rock star vibe but are all sweeties and really nice. I've referred at least 10 friends to them and they've all returned.

Best answer: Robert's Salon in Belmont Center. He used to be in Arlington but moved to Belmont a few years back. Nice place.

Best answer: If Medford's not too far away for her, James Joseph Studio is pretty solid. They have another branch on Newbury Street that's significantly more expensive. I got a haircut there about a year ago that cost about $50, and I was happy with it. They have free parking, too.

Best answer: I go to M.Y. Salon, which is upstairs from a motorcycle (?) dealership on Mass Ave in Arlington Heights - strange location, but perfectly nice salon.

Also agreeing with the recommendation for James Joseph on Newbury St., which is where my wife goes now.

Southie from Arlington in 20 minutes during business hours? If we had access to a helicopter, I wouldn't be asking for 50 dollar haircuts. Also, I checked the website and judging from the dude on the first page, I'm pretty sure that place is actually a front for meth dealing.

Just to clarify-- we're suburban wiener people and she wants a boring haircut from someone who doesn't have Hepatitis C in a salon in a neighboring town. She's exploring the other fine suggestions. Except for Newbury Street-- which is an extravagance that should get briank's Maine birth certificate revoked unless he offsets by getting Flowbee cuts for himself.

Dude, my wife may go to Newbury Street for her hair, but it's Supercuts all the way for me...and only because the bowl I used to put over my head cracked.

Best answer: M salon on Mass Ave in Porter Square -- went there when I lived in Porter and even though it seems hipper than thou, they really do a good haircut.

Um. Okay. The meth guy to whom you refer has won "Best in Boston" hair for 2009 and "Best of the New" in Boston Magazine in 2009. And "Hippest Staff" in 2009.

Didn't need to be quite so...I dunno...dismissive, eh?

Best answer: Illusions hair design, used to be in Lexington, now on Cambridge St in Woburn, is wonderful. Gail Cerbone, the owner, is fabulous. Her other stylists look like they give great cuts too. Hope it is not too far away to recommend!

Best answer: Davis sq is right near by and when I lived in Arlington I went to Mario's in Davis Sq. Not the greatest haircut I had, but decent and way under $50 (maybe $30?). I know go with my husband to his hairdresser since childhood, who is fantastic, but out in Peabody : )
