When were investitures held for Officers of the Order of the British Empire in 2009?

When are the ceremonies for appointment to the Order of the British Empire held?

I need to find out in what month someone who was named an Officer of the Order of the British Empire would have attended their investiture. The person in question was appointed New Years 2009 (so was named on the list that was published December 31, 2008).

I've checked the official website for the British Monarchy, but it's hell to navigate and I can't find a list of past investitures (or, for that matter, a list of upcoming investitures) so I'm turning to the Metafilter community with the hope that someone knows when this particular investiture was held.

This was definitely an investiture held at Buckingham Palace.

There doesn't seem to be one set date; Jane Goodall got hers in February of 2004, Eric Clapton in November 2004.

Have you tried searching Google News Archive? Or if you know where they lived in 2009 you could check their local news outlets to see if anyone covered it at the time.

Response by poster: I know there are two announcements made each year for the Order of the British Empire - one on New Years and one on the Queen's birthday. That likely explains the February/November 2004 investitures for the Order.

I did a search for a more prominent name on the list - Michael Sheen had his investiture June 2, 2009. Now I just need to find out if everyone from the New Years list had investiture on the same day.

Response by poster: katemonster - I tried Google News Archive, but the date of investiture for the person I am looking for isn't mentioned, only the date she was awarded the OBE. I'm verifying an anecdote from her investiture, so the date of the ceremony is what I need. I've emailed the press contact for Buckingham, but I've yet to find them prompt enough for a deadlined research request.

There are several investiture ceremonies for each list, so finding someone else's investiture date won't help.
Wikipedia says there are about 22 ceremonies per year.
There's some info here, you can probably contact the palace to see if the names and dates are publicly available anywhere.

The Central Chancery of the Orders of Knighthood is a small office within the Royal Household responsible for the administration of Orders of Chivalry and some aspects of honours in general. It does not deal with nominations or decisions on appointments, but rather administers the appointment procedures and investitures, and provides the insignia (via).

You can call the central number for Buckingham Palace and ask to be connected to the CCOK, who should be able to provide the information.

Investitures can take place on the most disparate occasions. I was awarded an honour in a hotel room in the country where I live during a state visit here by The Queen.

This sounds like information which would be posted in the London Gazette "the Official Newspaper of Record for the United Kingdom" (since 1665 - there are also Gazettes for Edinburgh and Belfast which would be the place to look if the person in question's from Scotland or Northern Ireland), specifically their Honours and Awards supplements. Beyond those links the info has to be paid for, but it appears that a search would be free.

Response by poster: Thanks for everyone's help -- I managed to confirm that the investiture for the person in question did take place on June 2, 2009.
