How can I get Outlook and GMail Notifier to play different sounds for the new mail notification?

It appears to me that both Outlook and GMail Notifier just play whatever WAV file is configured for the system New Mail Notification sound (set via Control Panel, Sounds).

How can I get them to play different sounds? I.e. one chime for new mail received via Outlook, another chime for GMail Notifier?

If you use Firefox, your best bet might be to install a gmail notifier add-on which allows you specify a sound file.
