a plain white dress

Help me find an awesome, not-too-expensive wedding dress that is not made of polyester.

Sadly, the J. Crew silk gown (the "Cecelia," if you care) I had my eye on left me flat when I saw it in real life (the color was a bit too cream, and I look better in white).

Are there online dressmakers/bridal shops that do not rhyme with "David's" where I could get a nice, simple, classy sub-$400 wedding dress made out of a fabric that exists in nature?

I'm happy to get a stock size and have it altered down to fit--I'm just completely turned off by the fussy, overwhelming bridal-industrial complex in my hometown, so I'm hoping to find something online.

Once Wed is a great resource for gently used dresses for a fraction of their original cost. Also a great site for wedding ideas.

If you like the cut of the J Crew dress, you might be able to get a seamstress to make you one similar to it in white for that price.

The Cotton Bride looks like a designer to look for. Don't know prices, unfortunately.
