ISO a pub near (but not in) Heathrow Airport for New Year's Eve

Am looking for a pub near (but not in) Heathrow Airport (Hayes, England), where a couple can celebrate New Year's Eve.

My husband I are arriving at Heathrow at night on Dec. 31. We'll be checking into a hotel very near Heathrow. Would like to proceed from the hotel to a nearby, local pub that will be open until midnight. Any ideas?

I've read other questions and answers about how to get into London from Heathrow. I don't want to get into London on the 31st. I want to find a pub close to Heathrow (but not in the airport, as we'll already have checked into our hotel), where my hubby and I can enjoy a pint and ring in the new year on Dec. 31. Heck, if the place had the telly on and we could watch the New Year's celebration in London to boot, well, that'd be all we could ask for. We'd like to get out on the eve, but I don't want to brave the crowds in London.

Our flight lands around 9 p.m., and we'll probably head out of the hotel in search of a place to wait for 2010 around 10. Ideas?

I would suggest having a look at http://www.thegoodpubguide.co.uk/ and maybe a few phone calls/emails

If your AskMe fails to generate a satisfactory answer, strike up a conversation with a flight attendant or a few of the ground staff and ask them for ideas. They often know the "good" places to go near airports.

Best answer: Also have a look on fancyapint and beerintheevening.

One thing to check...is your hotel in Hayes? Hayes is actually a few miles north of Heathrow.

Anyhow, I've heard good things about The Plough in Norwood Green (not to be confused with The Plough Tavern IIRC) which is closer to Heathrow. Old, beams, good beer, friendly. Classic English pub stuff.

If you're feeling peckish you can land a double bonus as nearby Southall has many, many fine Indian restaurants (article). Madhus is popular. My favourite is the Sri Lankan Palm Palace.

More detailed link for The Plough. They have a TV and you can contact them about NYE hours. (Most pubs will have a late licence for the evening.)

Be warned, many pubs, even bog-standard locals, are ticketed and charge an entrance fee on new year's eve. You might be able to buy them on the door though.

Good luck, have fun!

Response by poster: i_cola, you're right. Our hotel is *right* next to the airport, on Bath Road.

Best answer: The Three Magpies on Bath road in Hounslow wasn't bad about 10 years ago when I coached a local football team nearby - no idea what it is like nowadays, but it was popular with flight crew and airport workers when I used to go there. Bath road is a fairly busy (and long) road, so I don't know how close it is to your hotel, but give it a look if it's close.
