Where Can I Get a Directory of New York High Tech Companies?

Is there a directory of New York high tech companies?
I am applying in the New York city area for a software developer job.
There are a lot of job search websites but I notice that some companies, including some major companies, don't post their jobs on the major job websites.
Ideally, I would like to have a list of all the high tech companies in the New York city so I can sift through them and find their direct websites and apply directly.
Another reason for this is that there are a lot of job recruiters out there who post to the job websites and I really just want to work directly with a company and not through recruiters.
Anybody going through this situation, perhaps even in another city?
Google search gives some results but I haven't seen a comprehensive database out there.

Response by poster: Crunchbase is fantastic.
Thanks, that is exactly what I've been looking for!

Another possible resource would be to contact the New York City library of Science, Industry, and Business. They are specifically geared up for job searches, and might be able to point you to other databases.
