How Do I Write to Comrade Fidel?
October 29, 2009 11:25 PM

I would like to write a letter to Fidel Castro. How do I get a letter to him, or find his address?

Nothing too formal. I've just read a book about him and would like to share some thoughts and see if I get a reply.

If you search Amnesty International's 'Urgent Action' files you'll find pretty much every world leader's address. According to this page:

Dr Fidel Castro Ruz
Presidente de los Consejos de Estados y de Ministros
La Habana, Cuba
Fax: via Ministry of Foreign Affairs: 011 53 7 333 085 / 335 261
Salutation: Su Excelencia / Your Excellency

However, this is from 2001, when he was still president.

Honestly, I expect that that this:

Pres. Fidel Castro, ret.
Cuba

Will be enough to get to whatever organization screens his mail.

I do not know where you're located, but if you are in the US check out the USPS Service Updates.

Cuba: "Service is limited to letters in the usual form, Braille letters for the blind, postcards, and printed matter items sent as First-Class Mail International, International Priority Airmail (IPA) or International Surface Air Lift (ISAL) mailings. Priority Mail International parcel service is not available, but the Priority Mail International Flat-Rate Envelope may be mailed. Prior to mailing, customers need to contact the Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) in the U.S. Department of the Treasury for general provisions governing U.S. Department of the Treasury sanctions and for comprehensive information about goods and service that may not be imported to or exported from Cuba."

Write to him care of your Cuban embassy?

I know the Cuban embassies read and respond to almost every letter, and maybe if it's good enough it'll make it back to Cuba.
