Places to study in Vancouver

Vancouverites: Where's the best place in the city to go and study? With good Wi-Fi, of course.
A friend has been looking for a long while for somewhere better to study. As of the moment he spends a lot of time on the UBC campus, but I was wondering if any of you had more specific recommendations, especially your favourite coffee shops...
The requirements: relatively quiet, comfortable place to sit down, tables for writing on, comfortable chairs, stable wifi. Also, must be on Vancouver's west side, preferably north of 41st and south of 16th. Hopefully I'm not being much too specific?

When I was living in Kits I was a fan of Benny's at Broadway and Larch. Decent desserts, open very late, not too loud, and they have $3 draft beer (although this isn't very relevant).

Seconding Benny's Bagels at Broadway and Larch. I remember it very fondly from my UBC days; it's much as ripley_ has described it. The waitstaff never seemed impatient with students who stayed a long time nursing a tea/coffee and a bagel.
