Being both squinty and angry is getting too much for me

How do I increase the font size for Java applications using Mtoolkit AWT in Linux?
I'm trying to run iReport [ which is constantly crashing, but that's another story ], but the default font size looks tiny on my monitor. My google skills are failing me, and my overall Java experience is miserable.
I don't care to mess up my otherwise properly configured settings, just the Javacrap applications.
I am horribly failing to use this program under xmonad on slackware (yes, I know), which means the winning answer probably involves pawing around some config file or other, not your favorite graphical configuration tool.
