Brooklyn on a Wednesday night. What to do?

I have a friend flying in from Atlanta tomorrow night to stay with me for a few days, and she wants to start the debauchery immediately. She won't arrive at my place until about 9:00 pm, and we've decided it would be best to go out in Brooklyn (where I live) rather than get her unpacked, gussied up, and head to Manhattan.

Problem is, she's used to a different kind of fun than I am. She's recently divorced, and she's sowing her wild oats. I don't think she's looking for someplace sort of low key and pubby, so where do I take her? I don't usually go out on Wednesday nights, and even when I do, I don't go to singles bars or dance clubs. Is there any place in Brooklyn that would actually be hoppin' on a Wednesday night? She keeps talking about what a "wild" time she wants to have, and I'm at a loss.

Many of the bars on 5th Ave. in Park Slope get a good crowd even on weeknights. The Gate has a nice outdoor seating area, as does Gowanus Yacht Club in Carroll Gardens. Other options include Union Hall in Park Slope (it has bocce ball courts), Pacific Standard on 4th Ave. in the Slope, and Ellis Bar in the South Slope, which has free bourbon and bluegrass on Wed. nights.

Maybe ask her what she wants to do?

Bedford Ave. in Williamsburg is stupid every night.

Seconding Micawber. Walk down Bedford, and find the intersection of Bedford and North 6th... then walk down N.6th west towards the water. Have dinner at SEA (fun scene, inexpensive Asian fusion cuisine, bar in the restaurant) then go a little further to Hugs (divey dance club/bar)...

NB: crowds will be in their 20's and hipster-y - this may or may not be an attraction for you.

Response by poster: Micawber, I know what she wants, I just don't know where to get it! She wants some place with a "buzz," someplace she might be able to pick up men, maybe someplace where she can dance. In other words, anything besides what I usually like, which is a low-key neighborhood place where I can get good beer.

I live in Prospect Heights, but it doesn't make that much of a difference. We'll take a car if necessary.

20's and hipster-y is not really my scene, but it may well be hers since she seems to favor guys in their early 20's these days, and this week is about her, not me.

Thanks for the suggestions so far!

If she's really looking for guys in their early 20's, Williamsburg might be the answer (Larry Lawrence, Bembe or Hotel Del Mano would each be a step up from the Bedford Ave bars). Closer to you, I would think about Deity (Salsa on Wed. if she wants to dance), Moe's, Brooklyn Social, the new Fort Greene Beer Garden (think it's at Hanson and Fulton) would be good.

I have to say, I know that you guys were trying to stay in Brooklyn, but R Bar and Katra are right across the bridge, and sound kind of like what she's looking for. You don't have to be particularly dressed up for either place.

Response by poster: Moe's sounds just about perfect for her.

I don't know what Franklin Park is like on a Wednesday night, but it's probably worth checking out since it's in your backyard. The beer's not expensive and there is dancing and picking up.
