Tagging slides

Can anyone recommend a tag-based system for archiving slides?

My job requires me to keep a lot of slides (for powerpoint, lectures, handouts etc...) Can anyone recommend a way of tagging them, rather than keeping them in folders ... a bit like Delicious, but for offline material?

I use an Excel spreadsheet to index things. It can easily be searched using keywords and the data can be sorted. Just number your slides and set up spreadsheet columns for tags, subject, number, etc. You can always export it to a csv file to import into a MySQL database if the need arises.

Looks like Picasa is doing tags now for local files, not just the Picasaweb application.

I have not verified this yet. Been struggling with the decision to go Picasa versus Flickr for about...several years now...meanwhile the pics pile up.
