Camping in Green Bay, WI area
August 3, 2009 6:19 AM
Going to be in Wisconsin this weekend around the Green Bay area. Can anyone suggest a good campground around there? We are going to be tent camping but would like a campground that has a shower since we are road tripping.
If an hour out of Green Bay isn't too far, I'd suggest Point Beach State Forest. On Lake Michigan, dunes and piney forest ecosystem with newer bath houses.
Weekend nights will require a reservation (maybe any nice campsite will need a reservation theses August weekends).

You're going to be hard-pressed to find a weekend campsite anywhere in Wisconsin. They have been filling up to capacity (with lines at the crack of dawn for day-of walk-ins).
I would suggest visiting the reservation website as soon as possible. Peninsula State Park, while a bit of a drive, would be the best in the eastern-half of the state. Also, Rock Island would be the farthest but most-unique. No showers, too...

We stayed at Point Beach State Forest and it was fabulous. Thanks, Readery!
