Lusting for Tableau

What are some affordable alternatives to Tableau for data visualization, plotting, etc?

I am looking for some similar software that will produce awesome and easy to manipulate visualizations for the tons and tons of data I work with.

I adore Tableau (used the 7 day free trial), but there is absolutely no way I can afford a $999 license.

What are some cheaper alternatives? Besides, uh, Excel.

Best answer: R, for one. Add GGobi and Lattice for multivariate visualization and plotting. It's all free.

Another option is Aabel, but this costs about half the Tableau license.

Igor Pro is probably cheaper for you than MATLAB.

Protovis is a Javascript package that looks pretty good.
