Princesses and flying dogs?

[Bookfilter] Help me find a book from my sister-in-law's childhood about a princess called fenella.

We're unsure of the title, but my sister-in-law remembers it being a yellow hard back. The story / fairy tale in question may have been one of a collection in the book. The main character is a princess called Fenella (unsure of spelling) who is rescued in some way by a dog that grows wings and flies her back to her village. On approaching the village the locals assume the flying dog is attempting to take the princess away and attack him. Needless to say everybody lives happily ever after in the end. If it's relevant, she grew up in Northern Island in the 60's.

Best answer: OH I HAVE THIS ONE!

Loved it too. It's on the bookshelf at home, will post the title after work. I had it in a treasury of stories, but I definitely remember the princess' name.

Best answer: Is it Enid Blyton's Enchanted Tales: The Faraway Tree?

Description: Peter and Mary fly off to the rescue of their friend Princess Fenella who has been captured by Sly-one the gnome. But first they have to get to the top of the Faraway Tree, where Fairyland begins.

Response by poster: Northern Ireland - the shame.

Can't comment on success of suggestions until I can next talk to her.

Best answer: Here's some art from it featuring a winged dog, so I think iconomy has it.
