Recommend a Club Membership Database Application

I'm looking for suggestions for an open source, web based club membership database. I want to be able to store contact information and keep track of who has paid their membership fees and who hasn't.

Something that can send emails at various times (meeting invitations, fee reminders etc) would be good too.

CRM software looks overly complicated for what I need, and most of the applications I can find via google are either commercial or windows based.

I don't think CiviCRM would be too complicated. It has a ton of features, be we do a prety good job of ignoring the parts we don't use. It's open source and fairly easy to install and use. You can even grow into the event scheduling stuff and the CRM aspects if you feel the need.

Was also coming in to second CiviCRM, so there you have it.
