What to do in a month?

Things to accomplish in 1 month?

I have about a month and a week left in Chicago before heading off to university. That's not enough time to get a job/engage in entrepreneurship, but it's too much time to waste. What worthwhile things can I do to fill the time?

Are you looking for a long term project? Or just a way to fill the days with interesting activities?

If the latter, here are a few suggestions:

* go to the 10th Anniversary MeFi Meetup on the 18th. :)
* Old Town School of Folk Music Festival is this weekend.
* Walk/bike the entire Lake Shore Trail
* Concerts in Millennium Park
* Outdoor movies in Grant Park
* explore a neighborhood you haven't before (there are 60+ of them.)

There are tons of festivals going on now (as you know), check them out.

Also, check http://www.onebrick.org/ for volunteer opportunities in Chicago.

Open Books is a great literacy non-profit you might be interested in volunteering for.

Write a novel. It's off-season, but it's not like November is the only month in which you can write one-month novels.

Buy a harmonica, learn to play acceptably (not terribly), carry it with you. Instant sing-a-long.

The Sears Tower Ledge. Take pictures and report back please. I'm dying to go, but haven't had the time yet.

Seriously, if you have the money, I would totally do the tourist-y things like go to all the museums, see a ball game, hear some good blues, have a drink in the bar at the top of the Hancock, go to the beach, etc.

Figure out how much money you can spend between now and when you leave.

Then, sit down with a paper and pen, and brainstorm for two minutes on the following question:
"Given $X, what would I do in the next month if I knew that at the end of it I would get struck dead by lightning?"

Don't censor yourself! Your only goal is to keep the pen moving.

When the dust clears, look at your list. Try to select the three things that are the most appealing to you, are feasible to do, and won't result in any kind of negative outcome (some of us would do highly illegal or dangerous things if we knew death was imminent). Then get started!
