HP MediaSmart Server EX487 and a VPN Connection

I'm thinking about adding the HP MediaSmart Server EX487 to my home network. I have multiple computers in my apartment (all Windows PCs), including a work machine that is always connected via VPN to my office (to acccess Outlook, a shared drive, etc.). Will the work machine's VPN connection cause any difficulties, or prevent me from utilizing the HP for file sharing, printing, back up, etc. for my work machine, or any of my home machines?

It depends on how the VPN is configured. From your work machine, can you access the computers that are currently on the home network? If you can, then the VPN probably isn't an issue. If you can't, then you'll have problems seeing the new server. You can bring this up with your systems administrator at work.

In Windows at least, your VPN takes priority over your home network, but this can be solved by giving your home network a different addressing scheme than your work network. So I gave my home network 192.168.6.* , my work network is 192.168.1.* and everything is fine.
