Why do banks have such generic names anyway?

I screwed up the payee name on a cashier's check.

Short of sleep, I screwed up the payee name when I got a cashier's check at the bank this morning. I need the check for the late morning tomorrow, so I'll have a chance to go back to the bank beforehand. Is it possible to get replacements for events like this?

Response by poster: (The error is not just a spelling error; I used the word "National" where the payee has "American")

Best answer: Yeah, just take it back to the bank with the reciept and your ID. They have a way to swap you. They usually mark it as "not used for intended purpose" or something like that. I've done it before.

As long as you still have the cashiers check and it hasnt been deposited they will correct it for you by printing out another check. Just take it back to the bank that you got it from. No biggie

I did the same today -- it was a non-issue and was corrected and reissued in 10 minutes.
