Ignore the claws, I just want the shoes

These paw shoes look pretty cool to me. Clearly the claws and the soles have been added, but are the uppers from an already available pair of shoes? Does anyone know where I can get a pair of shoes, in the US or online, that looks like the base pair for this project?
If you look at the rest of Bob Basset's collection, he does a lot of custom leather (and metal) work. He may have started with a large pair of shoes and then stretched the leather to look like feet. In short: you may want to learn how to shape leather yourself.

Response by poster: I don't actually want shoes with any of the resemblances to feet in evidence in that pair. I'm just actually interested in a pair of black shoes with that lacing pattern & elongated but rounded toe. They may be a completely custom pair, but I thought he might have started with a pair of shoes and then modified them in all the ways they are clearly non-standard.

I've seen Keens and Fluevogs with... well, similar laces and toes, anyway. Might be worth looking at.

Take a look at his blog today. It looks to me like those shoes are completely handmade, and I think the matching mitts tend to support that theory.

Response by poster: I'd still love a pair of shoes that look like the basic shoes here, so I'm not going to tag this resolved.
