a great school for the recording arts

I am currently looking to further my education in the recording arts. Does anyone know of an affordable, yet accredited program?

There may be an accredited art institute near you such as the one in Austin, Texas (website http://www.artinstitutes.edu/austin/). It offers not only art-oriented courses but audio production, film production, web design, interactive media, etc.
A friend's son is enrolled there, and pumped about it. He's a budding graphic artist and has finally found his niche. His pal recently enrolled, and he's studying audio production. Both young men are from families with limited income, and they found some financial aid (I don't know details). Some of their fellow 18-year-old classmates got jobs through the art institute while studying for their diplomas or degrees.
I think there's a similar institute in Houston, Texas. If you don't live in or near Texas, a web search may turn up such schools near you.

My brother is studying some aspect of the recording industry (it is his major, but I admit, I don't have the name of the program off the top of my head- I'll ask and followup with you) at the Savannah College of Art and Design, and apparently it's a pretty top shelf school for recording and mixing and audio production.
It's pretty expensive, but he got scholarships (after being rejected from the local commuter college because of grades) based on portfolios and the like, so if you have something to show them, opportunities exist.
Good luck.

Not really affordable (unless you consider $14,000 / semester affordable), but the Berklee College of Music has a program.

McGill University in Montreal has a sound recording program that goes all the way through PhD and is really amazing.

That said, think REALLY hard about your goals before committing to a program for recording. Most professionals appear to agree that engineering/recording isn't a reliable way to make money anymore. Maybe you could intern somewhere first?
