Yeah, But I Want it for like 90% Off

Is there a place that will tell me about store closures in Austin, TX? I don't mean like Circuit City where ALL the stores are liquidating, that is usually pretty easy to find out, I mean more the chains that are only closing some stores.

The other day I randomly stopped by my not so local OfficeMax and learned it was shutting its doors in 10 days. All the display items were 50% off and furniture was 75% off. I walked out with a $130 desk chair for $35, I was really close to also walking out with a new digital camera. Earlier I read about World Market shutting down 10% of their stores, I wouldn't mind picking up some deals (new dining table anyone??) from there but the one I know of here isn't closing.

Basically I'd like to know when a big chain store is closing a location near me but I'd rather not sign up on every chain's newsletter list in the hopes that they tell me. Anyone know a list I can sign up for or a website that lists more specific store closings in my area?

Austin Business Journal?

Info on actual store closings should be collected by some county office, since you're talking about changes in sales tax and DBAs and such (though chain stores probably don't operate with DBAs too often). You're more likely to get that info from the county after the stores actually close, though, not in time to catch a big sale.

Another thing you could do is set up a new gmail account, then sign up for a bunch of news alerts with the stores you're most interested in. [Something like "office max" + austin + (close OR closing).]

Consumerist nearly always mentions them.
