Help Me Play the Piano
January 17, 2009 1:26 PM

Can anyone help me navigate this web site? I am looking for piano pieces that a beginning to intermediate pianist can play.

Unfortunately, you cannot search this site by difficulty level (or, if you can, I haven't figured out how to do it.) So, I figure the next best thing would be to let people already familiar with the music recommend stuff.

I am already familiar with these pieces and am trying to learn this piece a little at a time. This will give you an idea of what level I am playing at.

Shortly after I played a lot of Burgmuller I started on books of Sonatinas. You could probably also handle Furry Legs. You might also be able to play around with Bach two-part inventions. Some of Chopin's Preludes are deceptively easy note wise, giving you a chance to play around with interpretation.

Also, I'm delighted to see they have Czerny's stuff. The Art of Finger Dexterity might be a good chance for you to do some technical practicing, if you're interested in that sort of thing.

Thanks hydropsyche! The word "sonatina" seems to be a magic one. I now have several pieces that are short, and easy enough for me to practice.

I appreciate the link to the Czerny stuff, but I find it boring. I'm much more interested in little pieces that are nice enough that they sound pleasant to listen to even while I am learning them.

I'm really glad "Sonatina" worked. There's some great stuff in that library. If you ever stumble upon old piano music at a yard sale or whatever there will probably be literally dozens of collections of them lying around.

Sorry you didn't like the Czerny. That's the sort of thing you either love or hate, I think.
