Seeking a short term apartment in Central Vermont

Seeking an apartment in the Barre / Montpelier, Vermont area. Where to look?
I'm moving to Topsham,VT with my boyfriend in the spring, but we're looking to escape our current place in NYC a bit sooner than that (Jan. 1 would be ideal) to save money on rent.
Does anyone know of any apartment rentals that would be willing to do a short lease for 4-5 months at around $600/mo? We don't need anything fancy and the only pet we have is a cat. We could even pay for the whole thing in advance.
Alternately, where (besides Craigslist) should we be looking?

Most of the rentals in Montpelier are run by one man (Jeffery Jacobs) so getting the one number for him (SirStan can help with that) will be one of your best bets. He has a reputation in town, but the 7 months we stayed in one of his places on Main Street while we house shopped were fine with us.
I'd offer our rental flat, but my wife is deathly allergic to cats.
Welcome to the neighborhood! Email me if you have any questions.

Vermont isnt the electronic Mecca NYC is -- many people still advertise locally in the TimesArgus.com (printed paper). Their website is horrible, but rough through it.
Let me know if I can help at all with first peaks/photos/evaluations of Montpelier apartments (Barre not so much -- but your money will go farther there).
Cheers! And I hope to see you at Jessamyn's meetups.
