PowerPoint cutting off sound files

Why does PowerPoint keep cutting off my very short (~1 second) WAV files during my slide show? (Using Office 2007, PC running Vista).

I'm making a presentation in PowerPoint '07, and I have some short (~1 second) WAV files that I've included. They are all around 50 or 60 KB. When I am in Slide Show mode and I click on the sound icon to play the recording, the sound is cutting off (e.g., if it's a recording of someone saying "cat", I'm only hearing "ca"). What is causing this problem, and how can I fix it?

Best answer: Does it play longer sound files ok?
Does it happen with the same presentation on other computers?
Are the sound files linked or embedded? (info on this here)

Not an ideal solution, but have you tried adding an extra second or so of silence to the end of the file to see if it then plays the part you need?

Response by poster: Gomez,
I haven't tried longer sound files.

I also haven't tried playing on other computers, but I'll be giving the presentation using this computer.

The files are embedded.

I thought about adding some silence at the end as well, but didn't get a chance to do so last night when I was working on the presentation. I'll have to try that today...

Response by poster: Adding some silence to the end of the files seemed to do the trick! Thanks.

I'm glad to hear it works - although perhaps someone else can come up with a more elegant solution for future reference.
