Longshot car remote programming assistance? 05 Dodge Durango...
So we traded in the Stratus and got a Durango. Why? Because I like being able to go places where the Stratus couldn't. Anyway, 2 fobs and neither one works.
Went to Advance Auto Parts and tried their little "does it work" thinger, and nope--no signal being sent. Opened 'em up to change the batteries, and low and behold the battery clips were broken off. No biggie, same thing happened to the gf's grand prix fob, it's a simple solder fix and it works again. I was able to snap it back into place with a NEW battery and the parts store's scanner was able to pick up it was transmitting.
Back to Durango and NO DICE. Neither remote works. So...
What's the reprogram procedure for this thing? I've got an appointment with the dealership to do it next week, but they want about $50 for the trouble. Move incoming, dollars are valuable, help me out?
I understand it's not supposed to be public knowledge, SO if you have any idea and don't want to post it here, PLEASE send me a mefi mail. Please. With a capital P. I will even send you pictures of me with the truck, dogs in the back.
Model info:
2005 Dodge Durango, 5.7L Hemi, SLT model.
stupid new key is $80, even on ebay, plus recut and program. Fail.

I think it unlikely that the local garage will have the gear or information necessary to recode the transmitters.

Response by poster: that's the thing, there is no gear per se. It's just a special combo of locking and unlocking, turning the ignition off and on. I hate it that I could it now and just don't know what it is.

I read in a couple of places that it's mentioned in your car's manual. Here's a link, don't know if it will be helpful to you or not, but those forums should be a good place to get an answer.

Response by poster: Thanks. There are a lot of things about reprogramming in the manual, and you can reprogram NEW ones if you've got a working OLD one, but alas, I have not. I will look there. Thanks!
