Toddler-friendly Hawaii beach vacation?

Need ideas on where in Hawaii to go for a toddler-friendly beach vacation in December. Looking for somewhere warm and sunny, not too busy, with a kid-friendly beach - my son is 16 months old. We were thinking about Kauai, but open to other options too. We have previously stayed in Maui and were very disappointed at how busy it was, all the luxurious hotels were really big and impersonal. Somewhere casual and quiet, not interested in touristy spots, crowds, golf, spas, etc. Specific hotel recommendations very welcome, especially if they are right on the beach!

Best answer: Anini Beach, Kauai. Also called "baby beach".

Green Sands! Just kidding. Unless your toddler can scale the face of a cliff to get down there. I'm a big fan of the Big Island, and Hapuna Beach is probably the most family-friendly. There's people there, but it's a big beach. Anaehoomalu Bay wasn't crowded at all when I went, but I didn't think it was as beach-y as I'd like. The bay kept the surf down, and the sand wasn't as fine grained as I like.
