Looking for indie song suggestions for a community radio public affairs show.

A friend needs music for his fledgling bilingual (english/spanish) radio show on violence prevention. Since my previous question I've learned it is the radio station's policy to broadcast a bare minimum of 80% independent or local (South Puget Sound area, e.g. Seattle) artists. Any song suggestions that fit these criteria are welcome. Also any DJ resources you can suggest so I can do my own searches would be great.

You can kill two birds with one stone by going with any band on K Records. My two favorites from that label are Mount Eerie (previously The Microphones) and Mirah.

Most of those are visible directly at myspace.com/(insert artist name here).

As a DJ resource, try finding a local band you like and viewing their top friends on myspace.

Typically bands will group themselves with similar bands, so once you find one you like you could contact them through myspace for recommendations and they would be glad to assist you. (Speaking from personal experience)

Indie is a huge genre, what strain of indie...

I love Mike Patton when he was with The Dilinger Escape Plan and I can't recommend them enough....Come on, The Dilinger Escape Plan has hands down the best drummer EVER...Chris Penie

Response by poster: burnmp3s: I live across the street from K records! I'll pay them a visit.
bradly: thanks for the suggestions.
TeachTheDead: I'm not sure which genre he's interested in, only that the lyrics should be anti-violence and/or anti-sexist. Songs in Spanish are a plus.

all: I plan to look into all the suggestions and let him make selections. Muchas gracias!
