Does anyone know of North American community sites that are like Korea's Daum.net or Naver.com? (Not being able to read or speak Korean I can't even say what they are like)

Best answer: They are not community sites so much as old-skool portals, wrapping a range of services -- chat, IM, mobile, groups, email, shopping, news, search and so on and on -- into one location. Of course, in many ways, particularly the shopping bit -- my wife buys almost everything except our fresh food online -- they are better than the offerings one can find in America or the UK or *shudder* Australia.

MSN and Yahoo are exactly the same concept, basically. Nothing that special.

Response by poster: Thanks Stavros, this was a question I was asked by a Korean ESL student ( I tutor ESL at Algonquin College in Ottawa) and since I didn't know the nature of the sites I couldn't point him toward any North American equivalents.
