My dog thanks you for many future hours of squeaky goodness

I want to make squeaky toys for my dog, but I can't find a source for squeakers. Can anyone help?

My dog loooooves plush squeaky toys and doesn't even disembowel them, but once the squeak dies, she loses interest.

I have a sewing machine and plenty of fabric--all I need is a big bag of squeaker inserts to make her a regular supply of squeaky toys that can be discarded when they lose their voice. I've tried google and ebay, but I keep just getting the toys and not the inserts. I'd like to find a UK source that I can order online. Can anyone recommend a place? Barring that, is there some special google term I should be using other than 'squeaker'?

I'm pretty sure you can buy replacement squeakers at any pet store. I've seen them at Pet's Mart (or Pet Smart, depending on how you read it) many times. Different sizes and pitches are available.

In fact, here's a link to them at petsmart.com.

Response by poster: My local petstore doesn't have them. Wish we had Petsmart over here! I hadn't tried 'spare squeaker' --thanks for that. I'm still hoping to buy them in bulk though.

Try googling "bulk squeaker". I've bought them in craft stores as well as pet stores here in the US.

I have seen them at the larger pet stores. They're also available here.

I pick up plush stuffed toys at the thrift store or garage sales. They're usually 25 cents or so. I will do a little surgery and insert a squeaker. For less than a dollar, I now have a new dog toy (that my dog will destroy in a week or two - but he's having fun and that's what matters). Usually my dog will just destroy the toy and not the squeaker, so the same squeaker gets re-used multiple times.

Seconding ebay. Search for squeakers, and get 'em on the supercheap. I re-squeakified all my dogs' squeaky toys for them for Christmas. :)

I'm so happy it's not just me who does this. My dog is more interested in making noise than killing toys. She'll lie there with a toy stuffed in her big mouth and squeak-squeak-squeak for hours. (No, really. She's a Boxer.) Once the squeakers die I do a little bit of surgery and stick new ones in. If there's any way you can get some locally at a pet or craft store, I recommend doing that - gotta make sure the squeak is one you can live with, you know?

If she's big enough for them, you might want to look into.. I can't remember the specific name, but they're either called honkers or growlers. It's a thing that looks like a duck call, taped or rubber-banded or somehow secured to a plastic bag filled with fluff. Dog squeezes toy, air in bag goes through duck-call, toy honks. They have to be biggish toys, because of the air bag. But they're great, and not nearly as piercing.

Though, depending on which kind you get, the noise varies. A lot. My dog has a screaming duck and a farting ball, and they've both got the same type of gizmo inside.

Grunters! The farting/honking/wheezing/quacking toys are grunters.
