Looking for a good psychiatrist in the South Bend and Mishawaka area...am willing to travel a bit if I have to. Mainly for anxiety and depression disorders...appreciate your feedback...I have united healthcare as my provider and am getting names of my own off their site, but in the past I have had trouble knowing which were decent and which just pushed meds....so appreciate the HiveMind at work and thanks in advance.

I have a family member in Elkhart who has been seeing someone; not sure if it is a psychiatrist or just a counselor, but I'll ask and see what I can find out. Might take a bit but if nobody else answers I might still be able to help you.

If you don't want to have meds pushed, a psychiatrist may be the wrong choice. Perhaps a psychologist would meet your needs better.

Response by poster: No, a psychiatrist is fine...I just don't want them to listen for 2 minutes and then slam me with meds...we're talking bedside manner...i have no issue with meds. Too many simply medicate. I am working on the counseling angle as well so appreciate that input, though.

Best answer: Snap_Dragon, email or MeFi mail me. I have experience in this area, as does my cousin.

Ack, sorry can't help. Heard from my family member that the person in question is a counselor for the university, not a psychiatrist. Hope you can find the info you need from Roach.
