Obscure fantasy / adventure PC game from mid 90's?

I'm trying to remember the name of an obscure (to me, at least) fantasy / adventure PC game from the mid 90's. I repeatedly played through the demo on one of those PC Gamer CD's, but wasn't financially secure enough to purchase the game back then. I'm sure it's floating around somewhere as abandonware now, but I cant for the life of me remember what it was called. [More Inside]

Here's what I *do* remember:

- I think it had a one-word title
- Female main character dressed in blue 'scrubs.' Ponytail.
- It was largely based on stealth. When you did attack, it was with an oddly fierce jumpkick.
- The first (demo) level had you sneaking out of some sort of asylum, avoiding doctors and nurses.
- ONce you made it outside, the last thing you did in the demo was climb into the back of a white truck (Either a Garbage Truck or an Ambulance), which drove off with you inside.
- Polygon-ish graphics

Ringing any bells?

Response by poster: I've already tried picking through several abandonware archives with no luck.

Bells are ringing.

I believe you're thinking of the sequal to Mean Streets, called Countdown.

Do I rule or what?

By the way, that link also has a downloadable version of the game.

Response by poster: That wasn't it, though it does seem to meet my description. I just got the correct answer from an accountless ask.mefi reader:

"I'm almost certain the game you're looking for is Relentless. Info and download at HotU:

http://www.the-underdogs.org/game.php?id=645 (Warning: Popups)

The main character was male, but otherwise everything is exactly as you describe. Excellent game, incidentally."

Thanks Ask.Metafilter, now I can play the rest! And the Sequel!

Heh. I was thinking of Relentless, but then I thought, "No, Twinsen isn't a chick."

It definitely is a very cool game. The thing about the underdogs version is that it doesn't have the cinematic sequences, I think. I've downloaded it, but I don't want to play it without the movies, because they were a very cool part of the CD version I played long long ago.

But *man* that was a sweet game... with the sneaking, and the magic ball, and the talking, and the danger, and the horn, and the bouncing, and oooh boy... Hee, I can hear the magic ball sound now: *whoople whoofle whoop whoop whop whoo* Yes, that is what it sounds like.

never played the original but the sequel was top notch. you get spinny wushu moves when you get this sword. plus KISS makes a cameo.

this is one of my favourite games ever. I replayed it earlier this year and thoroughly enjoyed it again. IMHO the original is much better than the sequel.
I had big problems getting the audio working properly under 2k/xp and settled on using vmware running DOS, which worked a treat
