On an HP Pavilion laptop, how can I get rid of the Yahoo! Search box that sits in the taskbar, taking up valuable real estate?

Best answer: You can remove the Yahoo Toolbar via the Control Panel's Add/Remove programs. You can also right-click on your taskbar and select toolbars to uncheck it.

Response by poster: The Add/Remove does not have Yahoo Toolbar, maybe because this is Vista.

But your second tip did it. Thank you.

It is part of the HP total care advisor. a program that always runs in the background. it'll tell you about the computer and helps run backups if you need something that does that.

ijoyner's correct, I remember having that on my HP laptop as well (though ended up reformatting it anyway since I had Vista pro on hand to replace Vista home). The HP total care software is uneccessary, but you might be just as fine having the Yahoo toolbar disabled.
